Hi there,
My name is Chasia (pronounced ka-SIGH-ya) Elzina Jeffries. I am a Black Feminist theorist, storyteller, advocate, and poet who was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.
I am currently a Ph.D. student in UC Irvine’s Culture & Theory Program with graduate emphases in Feminist Studies & Critical Theory. I am also a J.D. candidate at Loyola Marymount University’s Loyola Law School. I’m interested in pursuing concentrations in public interest law and/or civil litigation & advocacy.
I received my B.A. in Law, History, & Culture with a minor in Gender & Social Justice, magna cum laude, from the University of Southern California. While there, I was a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow.
My research uses Black Feminist Theory, dis/ability theory, poetic theory, and affect theory to examine ideas of credibility, irrationality, resistance, community, and embodiment in the knowledge production and experiences of Black women, especially as they appear in legal and medical settings. I am also interested in the intellectual, political, and social histories and legacies of the Black Panther Party.
